Doing some video to promote a radio show isn’t easy. It isn’t always the right thing to do either. Giving people something great to watch isn’t necessarily a great incentive to listen to something.
However there are lots of reasons for doing video. It gets shared much more than audio on social media. It’s a great way of getting your show in front of a new audience.
The biggest failing I see are videos that start with the thought “let’s make a viral video”, never a good place to begin.
Recently, though, there have been some great examples. The regular videos of the Chris Moyles Show are endlessly watchable because the content is so engaging. They’re just a visual representation of what Chris moyles does exceptionally well.
Then there are videos which show off the character, attitude and sensibility of shows. Like this from Hamish and Andy:
This video from Viking FM which has more views that some stations have listeners! It’s plain funny but also shows off the personalities of the show.
